Pissouri

Pissouri is located  midway between Limassol and Paphos (34 kilometers from each) in the Southwest of Cyprus. It is ideally situation for touring the island. The weather is mainly hot and dry during the summer months, and cooler with rains over the winter. A common local phrase is “another perfect day in paradise”. It consists of two main locales, the village and the bay area, separated by farmlands and hills.

The main church in Pissouri is the Church of Apostolou Andreas, a magnificent stone Gothic building, where you will find antique icons displayed on a carved wooden stand made in 1890 and taking 10 years to complete. In the valley is Agios Mavrikos, small, but worth a visit. There are also the chapels of Agios Georgeos, The Prophet Elias, Agios Alexandros, Agios Spiridones, and Panayia Akonopetra.

Useful Information

A taxi between the village and bay will cost €7.50. A village bus operates between the two. A larger supermarket, pharmacy, petrol stations and medical centre are 2km away in Pissouri Village.

If you wish to explore the island a hire car is advisable.

Pissouri Bay

Pissouri is an uncrowded ‘Blue Flag’ sand and pebble beach in a sheltered bay, its clean waters are relatively calm. Facilities on the beach include sun beds, umbrellas, toilets, changing rooms, showers and water sports. Lifeguards are stationed at the beach from April to October.

The bay has a good variety of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops.

Pissouri Village

Pissouri Village is located in the hills above the bay (approx 5 mins drive) and is definitely worth visiting; retaining it’s charming, traditional character. The village square boasts charming tavernas, bars, and coffee shop, there is also a small supermarket, two banks, hairdresser and a post office. During July & August the tavernas in the village square hold traditional Cyprus nights, they are fun evenings with Cypriot food, music, dancing, entertainment, and hospitality in abundance. Regular music shows and tribute acts take place in the Amphitheater during the Summer months, take your own food, drink and cushions and enjoy the atmospheric environment under the stars.

Activities in Pissouri

There are many water sport activities available in the Bay – jet skis, banana rides, kayaks, water skiing, pedal boats, speed boats and boat trips. Scuba diving is also available at various locations around the island. The area has numerous hiking and biking trails through the hills, providing spectacular views.
